St. Lawrence Of Brindisi LENTEN SERMONS Volume Three This volume of LENTEN SERMONS, Volume Three, is the eleventh volume of Saint Lawrence's published sermons translated into English. Some sermons naturally repeat ideas and themes developed in his two previous volumes of Lenten Sermons. However, there is also much that is new in this formidable volume embracing more than ninety sermons. Every day of Lent, with few exceptions, mainly Saturdays, has at least one and often two or three additional sermons. Examples and quotations from the Old Testament abound and are often incorporated as types that prefigure New Testament events, at times with rather novel applications. The great majority of sermons develop a central theme that is carried out throughout the commentary on the Scriptural pericope for that day. Themes of faith, predestination, divine providence, virtue, God's mercy and love, seem to predominate, but at times themes such as almsgiving, repentance, the priesthood, baptism, confession, and the Eucharist are developed.
